When coming to Hungary by a bus service, you may get an option to drop at Budapest Kelenföld or Nepliget Station in Budapest. The answer to this question depends upon various factors, such as time and day that you will reach Budapest.
Additionally, it also depends whether you want to come to your Budapest hotel by public transport or with a taxi.We try to explain so that you can see what is the better option.

Arriving to Budapest at Midnight
If your bus is arriving to Budapest at midnight.i.e.between 23 30(night) and 3 30 (morning), it does not matter you come to Kelenfold or Nepliget Station.
As during this time slot, the Budapest metros and normal buses are mostly non-operational. They are replaced by night buses,and for a first time visitor it will be complicated to know the night bus routes.Hence, the best option is to book a taxi.
You can check if taxi fare from Nepliget to your hotel is less, choose Nepliget, otherwise you can drop at Kelenfold and visit your hotel with a taxi. You can compare the taxi fares from Nepliget and Kelenfold to your hotel here.
Lets say you are arriving during the day time,when Metros and Trams are operational, but if you have more luggage, it is still advised to book a taxi as moving around metro/trams stations from Nepliget or Kelenfold will be a tiring effort.
Arriving to Budapest in Daytime
Nepliget Bus Station is around 5.9 KM from the City center. In terms of distance, there is not much difference from Kelenföld station which is around 6.7 KM away from the Budapest city center.
From Nepliget Bus Station, you can take Metro M3 which takes 10 mins to bring you to Deak ferenc ter,which is the city center. Although sometimes M3 is closed due to maintenance or renovation, but still, there are replacement buses going from Nepliget to Deak Ferenc ter.
Hence, you will find option to take the public transport to go to Budapest City center from Nepliget Bus Station. In such case, you will have to buy a single ticket costing 350 HUF (around 1 Euro/USD/GBP) or a day pass.
On the other hand, coming from Kelenfold to Budapest City center is possible with a TRAM 49 which takes 20 mins. TRAM 49 runs on the ground, hence, you will be able to see the Buda side,cross Danube river on Green Bridge and while passing through Astoria, you will reach Deak Ferenc ter.
You will have to buy a single ticket (or a day pass) to travel with tram 49 to reach Budapest City center.

If you are dropping at Kelenfold station, another option to reach one end of Budapest City center stop Fovam ter (or Ferenciek Ter, the next station) is to come with Metro M4. M4 is pretty fast and can bring you to these places in 10 to 12 minutes.
You will have to get a single ticket or a day pass to travel with M4.
